BEA-U-TI-FUL DAY in every sense of the word - sunny, fun, and starting to see the transformations!! This morning Danny did some games and when I returned from a Walmart run (thanks to SHCC) they were doing the trust walk - a powerful and bonding experience! Then Billy and Elgin (and Bob who came in today) showed them how to make handwashing stands, so they made 4 as a service project and then used them before a great lunch. We broke until 2 when Vivian came to hula and teach them. I always get joy watching how she is able to pull them in and get them to participate!! After that Jyl came and taught them how to cover a tin with polymer clay that we baked in the oven. They covered the tops of the tins. Bob also did construction of birdhouses and key holder plaques and his new project "handiman tote." Swimming was a hit as well as fish were caught. I don't think I got them all recorded so I will need to do that tomorrow! Steve and Wayne did there usual spectacular job and everyone was stuffed to the brim with good food and great conversation. We sat outside and the lake was like a mirror reflecting the far shore. While we waited, they all got bubbles to play with. What a sight!! After dinner, we cranked up the karaoke machine and went strong all the way up to 10:00 (could have gone longer but we have another big day tomorrow!

I'll attach some of my 109 pictures!!

Thanks for the joy!

Letters from the Spring 2012 "GetAway"

May 10, 2012

Sharon,

Well, it rained and rained and then a rainbow. We have a nest of swallows on the porch with 4 babies about to fly. Danny did his games and the Birds of Prey did come out. We didn't make it to the rodeo tonight. Luckily some volunteers went ahead of time and told us that it was not happening tonight (like the man told me!!) so we played bingo and gave away prizes. Not gunna let that rain rain on our parade!!

Hope all of these come through...will send more!

Sharon and Jerry,

Everyone made it here safely and things are just as crazy as any other first day. Danny is doing a great job (Leader of the trust building games) and the Birds of Prey will be out later.

Take care,

Liz

Shepherd of the Hills Christian Church sponsors supply collection for campers!

Sunday, May 6 will be the second opportunity to donate supplies prior to the camp session beginning May 10.

The first of two "GetAways" promises to be a full house of campers, staff and volunteers.  Thank  you Shepherd of the Hills for this Outreach initiative.  So many of our campers have never experienced a camping environment, or perhaps have not since childhood.  Small supplies unique for this type of environment are not part of the purchases made with very small budgets and daily life.   We appreciate you!!!
